SPORTS DAY-"GREEN CUP"

Sports The Sri Lanka Cultural Society of British Columbia (SLCS-BC) successfully hosted the first-ever Sports Day for the Sri Lankan Muslim community in the Greater Vancouver area on July 29, 2007, at Gordon Park, Vancouver, BC. This landmark event brought together a large number of Sri Lankan Muslim families and featured a wide range of traditional sports and recreational activities for men, women, and children alike.

The primary objective of the event was to foster stronger bonds and enhance unity among members of the Sri Lankan Muslim community living in British Columbia.

The highlight of the day was an exhilarating six-a-side cricket tournament, in which seven local teams competed for the coveted “Green Cup.” The trophy, named to promote environmental awareness, reflected the event’s commitment to sustainability—only eco-friendly products were used throughout the day.

The much-anticipated final match saw Mahagedara A and Mahagedara B go head-to-head in a thrilling contest. After a closely fought game, Mahagedara A emerged victorious. Individual accolades were awarded to Br. Rifty for Best Batsman and Br. Naufer for Best Bowler.

In addition to cricket, a variety of other games were held, with winners receiving valuable prizes. The event concluded successfully at around 8:30 PM, marking a meaningful beginning to what is expected to be a vibrant calendar of community events.

With this successful inaugural event, SLCS-BC looks forward to organizing many more social and educational programs for the Sri Lankan Muslim community in British Columbia, Canada

ශ්‍රී ලංකා ක්‍රි.පූ ශ්‍රී ලංකා සංස්කෘතික සංගමය (SLCS-BC) විසින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද ග්‍රේටර් වැන්කුවර් ප්‍රදේශයේ ශ්‍රී ලාංකික මුස්ලිම් ප්‍රජාව සඳහා ප්‍රථම වරට “ක්‍රීඩා දිනය” 2007 ජූලි 29 වැනි දින වැන්කුවර් හි ගෝර්ඩන් පාර්ක්හිදී පැවැත්විණි. බොහෝ ශ්‍රී ලාංකික මුස්ලිම් පවුල් මෙම අවස්ථාවට සහභාගී වූ අතර, පිරිමි, ගැහැණු සහ ළමුන් සඳහා සම්ප්‍රදායික ක්‍රීඩා සහ විනෝදාත්මක ක්‍රියාකාරකම් ඇතුළත් විය. මෙම උත්සවයේ මූලික අරමුණ වූයේ ශ්‍රී ලාංකික මුස්ලිම්වරුන් අතර සබඳතා ශක්තිමත් කිරීමයි.

முதன்முதலாக வான்கூவர் பகுதியில் உள்ள இலங்கை முஸ்லிம் சமூகத்தினருக்கான முதல் "விளையாட்டு தினம்" இலங்கை கலாசார சங்கம் ஆஃப் BC (SLCS-BC) ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்தது, ஜூலை 29, 2007 அன்று வான்கூவரில் உள்ள கோர்டன் பூங்காவில் நடைபெற்றது. பாரம்பரிய விளையாட்டுக்கள் மற்றும் ஆண்கள், பெண்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகளுக்கான வேடிக்கையான நிகழ்வுகளை உள்ளடக்கிய இந்த நிகழ்வில் பெரும்பாலான இலங்கை முஸ்லிம் குடும்பங்கள் கலந்துகொண்டன. இலங்கை முஸ்லிம்களுக்கிடையிலான உறவுகளை வலுப்படுத்துவதே நிகழ்வின் முதன்மையான நோக்கமாகும்.

அன்றைய தினத்தின் சிறப்பம்சமாக ஆறு பேர் கொண்ட கிரிக்கெட் போட்டிகள் இடம்பெற்றன. சுற்றுச்சூழலைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த "GREEN CUP" என்று பெயரிடப்பட்ட கோப்பைக்காக ஏழு உள்ளூர் அணிகள் போட்டியிட்டன. சுற்றுச்சூழலுக்கு உகந்த பொருட்கள் மட்டுமே அன்று பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டன. மிகவும் எதிர்பார்க்கப்பட்ட இறுதிப் போட்டி மஹகெதர A மற்றும் B அணிகளுக்கு இடையில் இருந்தது. பரபரப்பான ஆட்டத்தின் முடிவில் மஹகெதர “A” அணி வெற்றியீட்டியது. சிறந்த பேட்ஸ்மேன் மற்றும் பந்து வீச்சாளருக்கான கோப்பைகள் சகோ. ரிஃப்டி மற்றும் சகோ. நௌஃபர், முறையே.

RAMADAN MALAR

The Sri Lankan Cultural Society in the province of British Columbia, Canada, published a unique guide called “ RAMADAN MALAR " in 2008. This booklet, authored by Sheikh Ibrahim Madani from Jeddah, is intended to provide a concise guide to fasting during Ramadan.

Our primary objective was to celebrate our Sri Lankan Muslim identity while positively impacting Canadian society and beyond.

கனடாவின் பிரிட்டிஷ் கொலம்பியா மாகாணத்தில் உள்ள இலங்கை கலாச்சார சங்கம் 2008 ஆம் ஆண்டு "ரமழான் மலர்" என்ற தனித்துவமான வழிகாட்டியை வெளியிட்டது. ஜித்தாவைச் சேர்ந்த ஷேக் இப்ராஹிம் மதனி எழுதிய இந்த கையேடு, ரமழான் நோன்பு பற்றிய சுருக்கமான வழிகாட்டியை வழங்கும் நோக்கம் கொண்டது.

Canadian Islamic Expo

The Sri Lankan Cultural Society of British Columbia made a historic contribution by representing Sri Lankan Muslims for the first time at the 4th Annual Canadian Islamic Cultural Exhibition, held at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Drawing over 10,000 attendees from the local community, the event celebrated the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Muslims from around the world.

As part of this multicultural gathering, the Sri Lankan Cultural Society showcased the unique identity and heritage of Sri Lankan Muslims. Their exhibit featured the island’s natural beauty, historical legacy, traditional artifacts, and renowned gemstones and jewelry—captivating visitors and fostering deeper appreciation for Sri Lanka’s cultural richness.

The exhibition served as a powerful platform for cultural exchange, friendship, and mutual understanding, bringing together Muslim communities from Canada, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, Japan, China, Indonesia, and beyond.
